Beautiful Kitchen Curtains

If everyone knew how easy it is to make a kitchen curtain I think many more people wouldn’t buy them ready anymore. It is so easy to do that even a kid as young enough to handle a sewing machine can do it. First you need to ask yourself if you can sew a straight line. If you can than that’s all it takes. Since the windows of kitchens are normally small you can do it in a couple hours. Before you go out to buy anything you need to take measurements of your window. Get the size of the rod that you will put up. The rod is the width of the window it is the bar from which the curtain will hang from.

Now you need to take the measurements of how long you would like to have your curtains to hang. Add a few inches for hemming. Short curtains for the kitchen are best. Add a couple more inches if your fabric isn’t preshrunk. I recommend that you still wash and iron the fabric before you sew your curtains so that it can do all the shrinking it wants beforehand. Cut the fabrics in the right direction on the patterns that you purchased. Pin together the cut up pieces in the order of the instructions on the pattern. The pattern will also guide you on how and what to start sewing from the beginning to the end.

After everything has been sewn together press the seams with a steam iron. Now it’s time to test the curtains up. Look at the length at the bottom; this is where you decide on the length that you desire. Pin up the bottom where you will hem the curtains. Take the curtains down, hem up the bottom of the curtains, and press them one last time. Finally, hang your curtains back up and enjoy the beautiful work of art. This will be very rewarding to you. You will be very proud that you made your own kitchen curtains.

You will see that a little bit of work can go a long way, especially when your friends and family start asking you where you got those curtains. You can become more creative during holiday seasons when you want to hang up a certain theme. For example for Christmastime, look for a Christmas theme fabric. For Halloween, you can find something with Jack-O-Lanterns; pumpkins or even ghosts on your curtains. You’ll definately have the holiday spirit in your home.
